The nature of design is usually iterative, evolutionary, sometimes unpredictable. This means that designers need to either embrace unexpected results and or they need to learn from them. Either way, decisions are required at a juncture where you achieve undesired or less effective results. We are interested in dissecting the design process to understand how different designers handle this very pivotal moment.
With a client there are constraints that may seem unacceptable in terms of a certain aesthetic sensibility, or there may be external circumstances that impact a project negatively. We seek to understand how our distinguished panel has navigated such challenges.
At a much larger scale, within a young designer's life there are events that take place that are undesirable from the perspective of a previously stated goal. We seek to help our students gain understanding about how role models in the world of design have dealt with such setbacks.
All of these scenarios and more are under consideration. We are looking forward to hosting a dialog with our panelists, looking at their work and the ways in which their work has been enhanced as they have worked through these and other challenges and failures, turning lemons into lemonade.
This event is sponsored in part by the Human Centered Design Club.
